Default Replacing the garage door springs?

Trying to research on replacing the garage door springs on the toy hauler with those gas shocks you usually see on hatchback cars. Not having much luck, have any of you seen this or hear of someone doing this ?

Even the high end stuff like fusion didn't have anything like that. I would guess a shock that Size would be very pricey

I've never seen anything like that on any of the haulers, even the high end stuff also.....I think it'd be expensive like Mark said, or a problem with the size needed to make it work.

Do you guys have the coil springs that attach from the door and the back of the trailer.
I had one of my springs pop and break in two places.
It was quite an eye opener.
I replaced them both right away.
There is a steel rod assembly inside the spring so no parts went flying but it made quite a big WHUMP! noise when it broke.
Then the door was REAL heavy with only one spring helping close the door.
I found out the information for the springs is on the flat end plate.
You should be able to buy heavier springs to make the door feel lighter.
Just don't go too far and end up with a door that won't stay down.
The springs are available out of a place in Los Angeles that supplies garage door springs. Cause that's what they are, garage door springs.
I'll see if I can find the information if you're interested.

Found the link to the springs.

http://www.aclickawayremotes.com/Hol...328/index.html

As I remember the part number is on the flat steel plate and breaks down to be:
3 is the gauge of the spring's steel and 28 is the number of coil wraps top to bottom.
Thus P328 is the part number for my springs.
A heavier spring would have a larger first number.

Yep, that's it.

great advise Fa.
I think you can also source the springs from Grainger or even Home Depot.

Thanks Fa, for the info... I guess I would have to stay with the springs, i was hoping for an alternative like the air shocks or something that wouldnt be too expensive.
